What are CEREC dental crowns?
CEREC technology involves same-day in-office scanning, designing, and milling of beautiful dental restorations. Traditional dental crowns are usually a time-consuming process.
With CEREC, there’s no long wait and there’s no need for two, three, or four visits. CEREC crowns are a convenient same-day process.
Dr. Yan digitally scans your teeth and sends the information and data to an in-office milling machine that produces your custom crown right there and then.
Why would I need CEREC crowns?
Crowns cover your tooth like a cap. You might choose CEREC crowns to restore cracked, chipped, broken, or discolored teeth.
Crowns are typically made from a combination of porcelain, metal, or ceramic. CEREC crowns are made of all ceramic.
How do CEREC same-day crowns work?
Dr. Yan prepares your tooth by removing the damaged parts and shaping it, so your tooth is ready to properly fit your restoration.
Once your tooth is prepared, the CEREC camera takes highly accurate mapping images of your tooth and converts the image into a 3D computerized model. Dr. Yan uses this 3D model to design your restoration.
When Dr. Yan is happy with the design, he sends the data to the milling machine in the office. The milling machine fabricates your new tooth from an all-ceramic block.
The milling process usually takes less than 30 minutes to complete. Dr. Yan might stain your crown to match your teeth even more, before polishing or glazing your crown in a special furnace. Dr. Yan then cements the crown to your teeth.
